Practice the nod
While at home, before setting out on a bike ride. put on your bike jersey and helmet and look at your self inthe bathroom mirror. try nodding, as if you are nodding to a fellow biker riding towards you. smile do a quick nod. and relax. This exercise will make you at ease, and confident when giving 'the nod' to fellow cyclists that you encounter. =)

Practice riding slow
This morning I rode bike to the office from seattle train station. I found that between 13 and 14 mph is my ideal commuting speed. if you don't have a speed-ometer. just think of it as a ride pace much less than hell-bent, but more than a sunday ride in the park, where really all you want to do is find a place under a shade tree and nap. its a good clip that says "I am going somewhere, or, I have a place I need to be." Which is exactly the case in a commuting ride.
so my average pace today was 15 mph. but I think that takes into account riding down south hill to the train station. My top speed bing 32 mph. =) anyway, What a great ride this turned out to be, blue skys, and warm morning. Summer riding at its best.
